A positive mood prevailed among the 196 exhibitors and 7,500 trade visitors at the premiere of BODY LOOK with bodytex in Düsseldorf from 23 to 25 July 2006. This means the organiser managed to expand the International Trade Fair specialised in Body, Beach and Legwear, Fabrics and Accessories on a both national and international scale despite the sluggish economy and structural changes in the industry as a whole.

In the hot summer of 2006 BODY LOOK with bodytex saw the 2007 "fashion spring" in Hall 16 of the Düsseldorf Exhibition Centre. Almost 7,500 trade visitors from Germany and abroad – the share of international retailers amounted to 20.4% - travelled to the "Rhenish premiere" of the International Trade Fair for Body, Beach and Legwear, Fabric and Accessories. This means that both the attendance and internationality doubled as against the previous event in Leipzig. "The success of the first event in Düsseldorf confirms our decision to make BODY LOOK an integral part of the IGEDO FASHION FAIRS DÜSSELDORF. We are delighted that the concept has worked out so well," said Frank Hartmann, General Manager at the Igedo Company, in summary.

196 exhibitors from 25 countries presented collections of 359 brands in total and voiced their satisfaction not only with the attendance but also with visitors’ high quality. One in two visitors (50.2%) had a store specialised in lingerie and underwear. Large-volume retailers accounted for 15.5% visitors while specialist outerwear retailers accounted for 34.8%. Accordingly, BODY LOOK confirmed its role as Germany’s most important trade fair for lingerie, bodywear and swimwear.

Retailers were highly inclined to place orders. Standing at approximately 10% the pre-order volume for Spring/Summer was almost as high as in the previous year while short-term orders and supplements for the winter season as well as NOS-orders were comparatively sluggish in view of the current economic situation. The prime period for placing re-orders will shift to September and, in part, even October, i.e. closer to the market.

Altogether, an optimistic mood prevailed which could not even be impaired by such topical and touchy topics as the 3 % increase in value-added tax. Speaking on behalf of many other buyers, Dunja Bister, who is in charge of purchasing body and sleepwear as well as corsetry for the Galeria Kaufhof department store at Schildergasse in Cologne, said: "The fair is international, stand design exudes a positive atmosphere. The fair is of paramount importance as a platform and I do hope very much that the event will be continued the way it now stands."

Nearly one in four visitors attended BODY LOOK for the first time, one in two retailers also stocked outerwear. Posting a proportion of first-time visitors as high as nearly 20%, BODY LOOK had an extremely positive impact on visitor flows at the IGEDO FASHION FAIRS DÜSSELDORF. Internal surveys showed that almost 28% of CPD visitors also visited BODY LOOK to gather information while 37% of visitors to BODY LOOK also took some time to pay a visit to the womenswear halls. 10% visitors also had a look around HMD while 16% of the HMD visitors stopped by Hall 16.

Both exhibitors and visitors alike welcomed the programme of supporting events – ranging from the Innovation Forum and the always well-attended fashion shows, to trend lectures and the informative Trend.Forum not forgetting the workshops – including the highly demanded packaging workshop by Ines Franz - and seminars. Fashion glamour was ensured by such highlights as the "Celebration" Show by Maryan Mehlhorn and the presentation of the "First Look Award" to young talents – a cooperation of the Igedo with the trade magazine Linie.

Considering the differing targets and structural changes, the dates scheduled for BODY LOOK were rated as "in sync" with the market by over 82% of the people surveyed. The same applies to the exhibition days: Sunday to Tuesday.

The bodytex area is rated as important and should be expanded further, since ongoing changes in the information, order, supply and demand behaviours make indepth, parallel market overview for the next but one season virtually indispensable for coping with ever more short-term orders.

The conclusion drawn by Sabine Schommer, Project Manager of BODY LOOK, is therefore positive: "BODY LOOK has had a great start in Düsseldorf. The event went well altogether and we can look to the future with optimism."

The next BODY LOOK will be held from 4 to 6 February 2007, again in parallel with CPD and HMD. The Innovation Forum on 3 February will deal with the hot topic: "Young talents and handing over to the next generation".
