Anomalous formations of the invisible drawings of force.

For Spring Summer 2012, Steffie Christiaens offers a powerful vision of femininity, through distinct silhouettes that project her observations on the magnetic forces of attraction. Forcing symmetry upon the arbitrary formations observed through the interactions of iron filings with magnets, the constant flux of attraction versus reaction dictates the DNA of the garments. The distinctive fingerprint of the fabrics is drawn from the resulting textures, while the volumes capture a snapshot of the transformations in process. Futurist elegance is balanced by a refreshing softness, in pieces that express an inquiring artistic spirit with a clean minimal edge.

A collision of cotton jacquards, silk crepe and technical fabrics allows for a new dialogue in light and texture, in an acidic palette of violet, sky blue, mocha and citrus yellow. Striated mesh, embossed viscose and sheer gauze layers create a delicate melange, further enhanced by sleek linear cutouts and suspended structures that expose the skin with a sense of cool restraint. There is a sculptural glamour throughout the collection, which redefines it's inspiration matter with a sense of sophistication - something that shines through in body-conscious eveningwear.

Continuing a fascination with artisan craftsmanship, demi-couture pieces exemplify the collection's magnetic inspirations, with a lampshade skirt embroidered in curlicues of shimmering steel, and a bra top and blouse woven with dramatic loops of horsehair. One lustrous minidress has been adorned in layers of nylon fringing, with thousands of glacial white filaments translating as a futuristic flapper dress (and a technical marvel).

Complementing the organically architectural garments, solid silver body jewellery moulds sinously into some silhouettes and minaudieres are crafted in both wood and stone (held with an in-built glove). A sculpted wedge heel is finished in jacquard, woven leather and glittering stingray.
