Yuima Nakazato Collection F/W 2019

The space
After careful deliberation, we settled on the Paris Descartes University as the location for this collection.
The gentle natural light that pours into the University's entrance provides a stunning backdrop perfectly
suited to discussions regarding the future of mankind and clothing.

Goldrain
"Goldrain",the sculpture located at the center of the building, has been under development by The Eugene Studio since 2018 and is based on the concept of "the generation of the Earth". Tiny particles of gold - each no bigger than 0.1mm in diameter - delicately fall from the sky to the ground. This rain of gold particles, along with the basin below in which they accumulate, display an otherworldly beauty that seems to transcend natural physical laws.

The tiniest of golden particles normally move in subtle, unseen ways, and their movements are easily affected by the surrounding wind and light. However, even these miniscule, shimmering specks can combine to veil the surface of water and turn it into a glistening expanse. "Goldrain" evokes the prestigious platinum color of the new protein material featured in our collection, together with the fluctuations and helical structure of DNA. It also symbolizes the process for creating this new material, which is born through the mixture of powder and liquid. The fragments in this sculpture fall like a primitive rain, calling to mind the birth of land, sea, and life immemorial.

Acting as a symbol of the BIRTH collection, this piece conveys the message that there are some things that clothing alone cannot communicate - but that clothing is inextricably linked to the spatio-temporal environment it is contextualized in.

BIRTH - Message
Yuima Nakazato has been striving to realize a future vision for humanity in which "Eventually, each and every garment will be unique and different". His quest for the pursuit of this radical idea, this democratization of haute couture, began in 2016. Upon rendezvous with Spiber and THE EUGENE studio, the journey begins anew.

Fashion, science, and art - a trio of disparate elements that speak to a shared spirit, to a belief in the potential of realizing a future full of hope. The fusion of these three domains by Yuima Nakazato, Spiber, and THE EUGENE Studio leads to a journey expanded in scope and rife with possibilities.

For the past half year, we have travelled between Tokyo, Yamagata, and Paris to expand this collection from its core concept, all the while considering the path that humanity should walk moving forward. The inspiration we received from each location spans nature, culture, history, and cuttingedge technology.

We believe that success in establishing a new relationship between humans and clothing will lead to a more plentiful, auspicious world. We present this collection today, here in the city of Paris, with the hope that it may serve as the first step toward such a future; not as merely another step on the path that humanity has trod thus far, but a step, in fact, taken in an entirely new direction.
