Stephane Rolland HC S/S 2021
FROM VELÀZQUEZ TO MANOLO VALDÉS

A court of infants and their meninas
Like a pictural manifesto,
A return to the Spanish Golden Age.

The perspective of the lines is disrupted by the metamorphosis and distortion of the volumes as a reference to the monumental artworks of marble, resin or metal from the Spanish sculptor Manolo Valdes.

The gowns open up, bloom and blossom in a solar yet profound atmosphere. The Iberian rigor confirms a genuine solemnity of the cut. A cardinal tunic of a black watered fabric crosses the soaring of a jacket or a corolla skirt made of gazar.

Crystal or golden chain flows escape from a corset of leather macrame and fall on satin pajama pants and dramatic crinolines from Valdes.

Wide jumpsuits and puffed courtdresses in golden gauze proudly convey rich embroideries of golden sequins, mother of pearl beads and malachite cabochons.

A parenthesis. A tryptic of cutout white sheath dresses bear gigantic magnolias and let a crystal rain flow from a breast.
Heads are crowned.
Manes of golden leaves frame the face.
Headpieces of black rattan cane and crystal nets imprison the tidy buns of the infants.”

Stéphane Rolland

About the « Meninas »:

Originally, it is a 17th century royal painting, the portrait of Queen Marie-Anne of Austria by Diego Velázquez, then of the Meninas, made in 1656.
In 2005, reimagining the master’s work in 21 monumental sculptures, Manolo Valdés had his imposing Meninas take to the streets and gardens of France, Switzerland and Spain. In 2021, it is the couturier Stéphane Rolland who draws inspiration from the works of the Spanish artist to design the lines of his Haute Couture Spring-Summer 2021 collection.

Manolo Valdés is one of the few artists to master the disciplines of drawing, painting, sculpture and engraving. In each of these specialties, he is technically qualified, original, innovative and endlessly provocative. Manolo Valdés lives and works between New York and Madrid. In his works, the artist draws heavily on Spain’s artistic heritage, in particular the work of Velázquez. Using engraving and collage techniques, the works of Manolo Valdés refer to other masters, including Rembrandt, Rubens and Matisse, and create a particular effect that transports major historical works out of their original context, infusing them with both modernity and majesty. Inspired by Diego Velázquez, Manolo Valdés brought a third dimension to the painting, his sculptures of the Meninas are considered a masterful work.

Queen Marie-Anne of Austria is an oil on canvas by Diego Velázquez produced in 1653. It entered the Prado museum in 1845. A replica of this canvas is currently on display at the Louvre Museum.

About : Stéphane Rolland, recognized for his inspirations related to modern art and architecture, and endowed with a particular sensitivity to space and light, creates exclusive works of art combining luxury and modernity. Through each collection, Stéphane Rolland brings the material to life with movement and purity. With the collaboration of the most renowned artisans in Paris and many artists, it incorporates new materials combining sophistication, relief, art and craftsmanship. It represents a new aesthetic ideal, immaculate complex silhouettes, graphic and sculptural. Many personalities wear the creations of Stéphane Rolland, in particular Celine Dion, Rita Ora, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga and Cindy Bruna.

Staffel der Prosieben-Show.

Kaftans collection spring-summer 2021

Stéphane Rolland presents his first kaftan and djellabiah collection with a construction and proportion that certainly characterizes him.

Faithful to his graphic and architectural universe, the generosity of his volumes is strongly emphasized and appears obvious. His vision of the Middle East is authentic and showcases a timeless modernity

The line of these 11 looks is pure, proud, deep and transcribes a real sensuality.

Incrustations are geometric and the lame silks are printed with Kardesch’s paintings. The folded necklines turn into padded lapels. The jumpsuit is worn oversized, as are the djellabiahs, and bisht coats are reinterpreted in a contemporary way.

The embroideries are golden chain sets worn as scarves, a funnel neck is covered in crystal and grey tanzanite, golden curb chains embellish a low neckline as metal and crystal cuffs conclude the movement. In a range of satin crepes, velvets and damask silks, the tones are willingly graphic in black and ivory or urban in beiges and greys, sometimes authentic in saffron and old wood. A voyage back to the desert within the secrets of a Saraya.

Jean-Claude Jitrois, the stretch-leather specialist and a longtime friend has joined forces with Caroline Gaspard the creator of AKILLIS jewelry for a one-of-a-kind collaboration: a capsule collection inspired by her recent Tattoo jewelry line, offering men and women an initiation into the world of jewelry tattoos.

A send-up to tribal tattoo art that traces its origins to the Pacific islands, this collection will land close to the hearts of lovers of jewelry tattoos.

The creativity of Caroline Gaspard combines with the savoir-faire and signature pieces of the Maison Jitrois. She re-interprets these ethnic motifs though the clever use of embroidered stretch-leather meshwork. A tour de force of technical innovation!

Designed as a second skin, the pieces in this collaboration boast cut-outs and inlays in stylish and unique shapes, an interplay of transparency that pays homage to the Oceanic traditions of carved tattoos.

As a pair, Caroline and Jean-Claude develop their shared taste for paradox and offer a collection where waves, harpoons, spirals, and arrows meld and clash in a harmony of opposites. The iconic styles of Maison Jitrois (the black-stretch-leather Nayala dress, the Rider jacket) emerge with a new look elegance from a fresh, Ethno-Rock angle.

For die-hard fans of these brands, this capsule collection will be available to pre-order on Jitrois.com. It will also be available in the Paris and London Jitrois boutiques and at the main Jitrois retailers (Selfridges, Popp-Kretschmer, 55 Croisette, Pretty You, Dadelszen …).
