Nine peruvian designers, selected and sponsered by PromPeru and Peru Moda, showed
during the Pret-A-Porter in January 2008 their Alpaca. Because its extraordinary softness,
lightness and versatility, this fibre is in demand by the luxury industry. For a couple of years the cattle, in collaboration with the government, are interested in breeding animals to obtain a fibre in a color, which is ready to get adapted to the colors needed in fashion, to increase the range of colours which comprises already about 22 natural shades. The alpaca is a domestic animal which lives in an altitude of about 3500m. The wool is seven times warmer and 4 times more resitant than others and from the feeling like cashmere. More than 80% of the alpaca wool production in the world comes from Peru. Two types of alpaca exists : Suri and Huacaya.
