MBFWBERLIN Presents More Shows Against A Historical Backdrop

WITH 18 ONSITE DESIGNERS ALREADY CONFIRMED, BEBELPLATZ BERLIN WILL BECOME
THE CENTRAL FOCUS FOR THE FASHION WORLD FROM JULY 17 - 20, 2008

The finishing touches are being put on the runway schedule of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin Spring/Summer 2009. Already 18 designers have confirmed their participation at the event’s new and central location at Bebelplatz Berlin. This season LAC ET MEL, Sisi Wasabi, Smeilinener, Susanne Wiebe, Suzana Peric, Unrath & Strano and Vivienne Westwood Anglomania will return to the event with Basso & Brooke, M by Kostas Murkudis, Eastpak, Kai Kühne, Karen Ly, Kilian Kerner, pureBERLIN, Scherer González and Slavna Martinovic completing the list. c.neeon, HUGO, JOOP! Jeans and Michalsky will also all stage off-site shows within the context of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin.

The significance of Berlin as a new centre of the international Fashion World keeps growing. By now hundreds of designers and labels operate from Berlin and inspire their customers with innovative designs in different branches of the fashion market. More and more international designers find their way to the German capitol and to the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin.

"By mixing national and international established fashion brands, next to showcasing up-and-coming designers, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin has developed its own unique character. This also gained a lot of recognition in the international Fashion Industry," says Dr. Olaf Göttgens, Vice President Brand Communications Mercedes-Benz Cars.

For the third time the Karstadt New Generation Award will support four outstanding young designers so they can present their collections to an international audience composed of fashion experts and the general public. This season Esther Perbandt, Boessert/Schorn, Marcel Ostertag and Blutsgeschwister have been selected to participate and will show their newest collections.

Also the University of Fine Arts Berlin (UdK Berlin) will be a part of the event providing students with the chance to participate and experience the whole process of putting together a professional runway show and presenting their pieces.

"The fashion shows, Premium Exhibitions as well as the start of the Showroom-Mile will support Berlin’s position as an upcoming fashion centre in Europe."

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin will kick off on Thursday, July 17th 2008, with a press conference at Bebelplatz Berlin. A complete schedule of shows will be announced in the weeks before the event.
